Safety Without Compromise
Safety Is Our Culture
At Volantis Air, safety is not a department, a checklist, or a policy document. It is the foundational culture upon which every decision, every procedure, and every flight is built. From the boardroom to the cockpit, safety permeates everything we do.
Our Safety Management System (SMS) is developed in accordance with ICAO Annex 19 standards and CAA CAP 795 guidance. It provides a structured approach to hazard identification, risk assessment, and continuous safety improvement that goes well beyond minimum regulatory requirements.
We believe in proactive safety — identifying and mitigating risks before they manifest as incidents. Our non-punitive reporting culture encourages every team member to raise safety concerns without fear of reprisal, creating a self-improving safety ecosystem.
The Foundation of Safe Operations
Safety Policy
Management commitment to safety, clear accountability structures, and a non-punitive reporting culture that encourages transparency at every level.
Risk Management
Systematic hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies. Continuous monitoring of operational threats and emerging risks.
Safety Assurance
Ongoing evaluation of safety performance through audits, inspections, surveys, and investigation of safety occurrences. Data-driven decision making.
Safety Promotion
Training, communication, and a culture where safety awareness is embedded in daily operations. Safety bulletins, lessons learned, and industry engagement.
Exceeding Minimums
Our pilots are among the most qualified in private aviation. We set minimum experience requirements that significantly exceed CAA thresholds, and invest continuously in advanced training.
Experience Requirements
All Volantis Air pilots hold ATPL licences with a minimum of 3,000 total flying hours. Captains are required to have at least 5,000 hours total time and 1,500 hours on type. These thresholds substantially exceed CAA minimum requirements for commercial air transport operations.
Recurrent Training
Pilots undergo simulator training every six months — twice the regulatory minimum. This includes advanced upset prevention and recovery training (UPRT), CRM (Crew Resource Management) refresher, and scenario-based emergency procedure training in full-motion simulators.
Crew Resource Management
CRM is not just a training module — it is embedded in our operational culture. We train crews to communicate effectively, manage workload, make decisions under pressure, and maintain situational awareness throughout every phase of flight.
Fatigue Risk Management
Our Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS) goes beyond FTL compliance. We use bio-mathematical modelling, crew self-reporting, and operational data to ensure our pilots are well-rested and alert for every flight.
Engineering Excellence
Every aircraft in the Volantis Air fleet is maintained in strict accordance with EASA Part-M continuing airworthiness requirements. Our maintenance programmes are approved by the CAA and managed by experienced CAMO (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation) professionals.
We partner exclusively with EASA Part-145 approved maintenance organisations for all line and base maintenance. Every component, every repair, and every inspection is documented, traceable, and auditable.
Our philosophy is preventive, not reactive. We go beyond mandatory maintenance intervals with enhanced inspection programmes, early component replacement strategies, and continuous airworthiness monitoring using real-time aircraft health data.
Meeting and Exceeding Standards
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
Volantis Air operates under the regulatory oversight of the UK Civil Aviation Authority. Our AOC application demonstrates full compliance with EU-retained aviation safety regulation as applied in the UK post-Brexit. We engage proactively with the CAA throughout the certification process.
EASA Standards
Our operations, maintenance, and training programmes are aligned with European Union Aviation Safety Agency standards. This ensures interoperability across European airspace and access to the continent's extensive network of airports and maintenance facilities.
ICAO Compliance
We comply with International Civil Aviation Organization standards and recommended practices, including Annex 19 (Safety Management), Annex 6 (Operation of Aircraft), and Annex 1 (Personnel Licensing). Our SMS is built on ICAO's safety management framework.
IS-BAO Alignment
Our operations are aligned with the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO), the internationally recognised code of best practice for business aviation. We aim to achieve IS-BAO Stage I certification following AOC approval.
